We are deeply grateful to The Christchurch Yacht Club who generously invited us to a Classic Boats Regatta on Saturday, 25 January, 2014. This was a great opportunity to put our boats on display, and enjoy a sail on the local waters and a social gathering afterwards.
Despite the grey skies, participants enjoyed a steady 8-10 knot North Easterly and the tremendous hospitality of the hosts! The regatta was a great opportunity for smaller boats to enjoy the comparatively sheltered waters of the Avon-Heathcote estuary. The seawall along the bay provided photographers with many great vantage points from which to record the boats in action.
The launching facilities and the adjacent beach proved ideal for both small and larger boats.
The Programme included:
9.00 am Boats on display on the forecourt of the CYC clubhouse in Moncks Bay
11.00 am Boats launched
11.30 am Parade of boats past the clubhouse – with commentary from shore, followed by a sailing/motoring/rowing course past the club to Fisherman’s Point and return.
12.30 pm Sailing or motoring at leisure on the Estuary
3.00 pm Afternoon tea and refreshments provided in Clubhouse
