Review ~ Ashburton Classic Boats Regatta 2013
(Report from Ashburton Sailing Club)
The day started out a typical good weather Ashburton day . As the boats arrived it was evident that a lot of the craft were first time attendees . Craft turning up included, row boats, air powered motor craft, motor powered racing speed boats and sailing yachts. Mostly they were classes from yester years that have been given a spruce up for this regatta . Other sail boats were new boats built to traditional old designs . Some model radio controlled craft also came and displayed their paces on a smaller new lake . Once all craft were readied for the water we had them all do a sail past before having a Fun Race . After the Race, we had the Prize Giving,no sooner had we completed that than the weather packed up, and it started to rain
The Prize List:
Best Original Classic Boat: Delight - Matt Williams
Best Restored Yacht: Moth - Gavin Walter
Best Replica: (row boat): Bee's Knees - Arthur Pretty
Best Overall Boat at Regatta: Bee's Knees - Arthur Pretty
In closing thanks to all for coming to the Lake Hood Regatta, next year there will be a BBQ for entrants, included in the entry fee.
If there are any ideas on how to improve our regatta please do let us know. If any money is left over from our expenses it goes towards our Youth Training Programme.
